Have to say, I still love my AFL (go Melbourne), but I can leave my seat and get a drink during AFL, I can't do that during Chelsea games - too scared I'll miss something. I never used to understand how a low scoring game could be so exciting to watch, now I live for it!

I do realise no one has added to this thread in a couple of months. Just thought I would let everyone know I too am from Australia. I have been a big Blues fan since I was 16yo when I saw Chelsea win the 1997 FA Cup. Before that I had not been a fan of soccer at all. Unlike the other Australians who it seems have since forgotten about this forum I am not such a big Australian rules fan. Though I have enjoyed watching the Brisbane Lions absolutely slaughter the opposition and win the premiership three times running. I did live in WA for 5 years growing up and I can remember my Scottish grandmother very passionately getting into the West Coast Eagles (she was especially a huge Peter Sumich fan. lol.) on both occasions she visited us over there. I however was born in Queensland and have lived here for all but 5 years of my life so Rugby League was always number one with me. You can simply not beat State of Origin (annual best of three game series between Queensland and New South Wales). I was living in Townsville in 1995 when the North Queensland Cowboys entered the then ARL and have been a fan ever since. Now in their tenth season they seem to finally be getting things right and are no longer easy beats. In the current season they look certainties to make the finals for the first time in history which is exciting. Forgetting State of Origin and being able to watch a now extremely competitive Cowboys team go around I would say that European (especially the EPL) soccer is now probably my number one sport. I really just can't get enough sport. The only gripe I really have with soccer is with players staying down when "hurt". I have seen players carried to the side on stretchers only to be back on his feat as soon as he is off the field and within literally 1 minute be back on the pitch. Or one players just brushes an opposing players cheek with an elbow and he dives to the ground with his face in his hands rolling around like he is in agony (I speak of a particular incident I recently witnessed from a Tunisian player I think at the Olympics- but similar happens all the time). Of course after his performance and he gets back on his feat there is no sign whatsoever that anything was ever wrong with him. Sure he is trying to get a penalty for his side but where is his self- respect? In high school I played Rugby League where there is naturally being a contact sport a much tougher culture. If someone brushed your cheek with an elbow you might just give them a good shove and say a few words and play continues. Of course if you cop a solid elbow to the face things will be a bit different. But there are only too likelihoods if the player finds himself on the ground, either he is unconscious or else he will be immediately to his feat with fists flying. If you are hurt you don't show it. It doesn't matter if you have a couple of broken ribs you get straight to your feat and play the ball before putting up your hand to come off. Though if your team doesn't have anyone fit to replace you you will be staying out there to at least fill a gap in the defensive line for what's left of the game. I think though that there are a lot more soccer players with undesirable temperaments than there are in the Rugby codes. Maybe it is just that in full contact sports you have ways to take out your frustrations that are actually within the rules. And you also know that you will get back at least as good as you get. In Rugby League you can exchange punches with a guy and so long as it is off the ball and doesn't get out of hand there needn't be so much as a penalty. Yet it is not really a very common occurance. I guess if Roy Keane were a Rugby player he would get sick of coming in for extra attention and being smashed every time he touched the ball and maybe even have his nose broken and he would soon learn his lesson. I am the most placid, relaxed, calm guy going but I love to stir little nutss like Roy Keane that have hot tempers. And while I hate violence (and dislike hot headed people. lol.) I will never walk away from a confrontation, I will smile and maybe have a chuckle and likely egg them. I am 6'3 (191cm) tall, 2- feet shoulder to shoulder and 105kg (231lbs) of muscle which I guess along with my confidend front works in my favour as I am yet to run into someone game enough to throw a punch at me. Anyway I just don't like dirty players, the shirt pullers, players that argue with the referee and guys with bad tempers but I especially don't like players that act hurt. God I have managed to write a whole heap of sh*t. lol. If anyone happens to have read this. Does Chelsea really have any "dirty" players at present?
